INFLUENCES IN GAMANDRIA

A post a did about Thai influences in Gamandria was in RPG Review recently (HERE) and that got me thinking about some of the reactions people have had to the setting. I've noticed a lot of folks have described Gamandria as an Asian setting and I am glad people noticed these elements. But I wanted to clarify the breadth of the setting for those who haven't had a chance to check out the game.

The pre-history of Gamandria is firmly inspired by Thai myths, history and legends (which also means there are Indian elements there as well). Cultures in the setting that survive from this period or were directly influenced by it, are strongly Asian in flavor (mostly Thai but there are also Chinese and Mongolian inspired places). However the entire south Eastern portion of the continent takes its inspiration from Greece and the Ancient Middle East. The North West is Roman in flavor and the North East is a kind of primitive European backwater (one that has absorbed many of the Latin elements from the North West and many of the Greek and Arabic elements from the South East).
