RIGHTEOUS BLOOD, RUTHLESS BLADES: THE DARK AND GLAMOROUS WUXIA RPG IS COMING

When I think of my favorite kind of wuxia films, they all share a dark glamour. They paint a martial world that is alluring but dangerous. Each film is a swirl of deadly swordplay and eccentric martial experts, all building to a moment of emotional catharsis (usually a violent one, but not always). Many of them are based on the stories of Gu Long, and a fair number are directed by Chor Yuen. They are dark, but also have room for humor (even if the humor is itself pretty grim). There is mystery and intrigue, death and betrayal. And always plenty of wine. This is the sort of thing I wanted to bring to the table with Righteous Blood, Ruthless Blades. For the past two years, I have worked alongside my co-designer, Jeremy Bai, to produce a wuxia RPG that fit this goal. The game will be released soon (as of now, it will make its way to the states in early January, and elsewhere December 10th). I just received a box of advance copies of the book and it looks beautiful. In the coming week I hope to share more about this wonderful RPG.

  3. Got the ebook on Kobo. As a hardcore wuxia fan and very casual DnD player (haven't played in years), I love what I'm seeing so far! Amazing work guys.

I only had time to read a dozen or so pages,

and I love the mature, gritty flavor of your Righteous Blood Ruthless Blades wuxia setting. This Dragon Clan reminds me of the Golden Coin clan in the novel Sentimental Swordsman Ruthless Sword. But a small inspiration germinated into something original with even more depth.

Many other organizations I glimpsed caught my eye too. A player in this setting has so many quality avenues to choose from.

I might have seen some fun references to Li Xunhuan and Yan Shisan (Time-Stopping Sword!)

    1. Thanks! Making the sects and NPCs was one of the best parts of creating this game. Yes, those were both big influences.

  5. I have only been able to take a cursory glance at Righteous Blood so far, having received it as a Xmas gift. What has really impressed me is just how well written it is. I'm sure the production helps but the text is very transparent to the reader, not always the case with rpgs. One concern I had was how compatible the game would be with the excellent Strange Tales of Songling but I can't see any problems there, even a gm like me could probably wing it. This is going to be fun.
